Glen Williams Bridge to Open Saturday in Halton County

Halton County Council announces the official opening of Glen Williams Bridge on Saturday at 2 pm with the Warden cutting the ribbons. Delegations from Oakville High School Board and Lorne Scots Regiment outline school area plans and postwar program funding while committee reports address repairs, equipment, and road projects.

New Trick for Utilities Services Delivered Soon

The Acton Public Utilities Commission met Monday with Chairman Hansen and members MacArthur and Chase. They set underground cable price matching on Frederick Street and considered debt issues to finance work, plus salary raises for John Lambert and O F Rogvaldson. A changeover to 60 cycle power was discussed with OMEU, and a new truck body and nameplate were planned. Several suppliers’ charges were listed for utilities departments.

Scout Mothers Auxiliary Social Evening Report

On Tuesday the Scout Mothers Auxiliary met at Mrs. Spielvogel's home for a social evening. Each member brought a guest. games and tests were enjoyed. A dainty lunch followed, then a short business meeting. The treasurer reported 1550 dollars raised at the last event and plans were set for a Scout parents rights event in the near future.

Tragedy in Flora Home As Rifle Accident Kills Girl

In Flora a family tragedy claimed the life of eleven year old Hetty when a misfired rifle discharged at home while a teen examined the firing mechanism. The father Scott Hed Thrown, a WWII veteran and Pro Hockey Club player, and the mother described the scene as responders arrived.

Woman's Association meets at Mrs Richardson's home

The Woman's Association of the United Church held its monthly meeting at Mrs. D Richardson's home. Mrs Agar presided and devotional exercises were led by Miss Thetfood and Miss Stawthorne. Plans were made for a soldiers banquet and winter quilting began. The gathering ended with prayer and refreshments.

Booster Night At Arena Showed Grand Hockey Pageantry

A Booster Night at Acton Arena featured a full hockey program with nearly a hundred players in uniform from youth to junior levels and a grand parade. The Buffalo Lorenzo Hockey Club played to a 4 4 tie with Acton as Sy Apps and Turk Broda refereed. Mr. Stanley Hall welcomed guests and Norm Morton of Tenneta teamed with his son for a passing score, with early goals by Morton and Bayliss.

Erin Township Appoints Officials for 1946 Budget

Township council met February 4 with nine members present. John McFee named Assessor. Brock, Davis and Dyasax named road and office staff. a by law to allow day tax collection with assessment. Road, bridge and machinery funds allocated totaling 30,000.00. Reeve and deputy reeve to attend Municipal Association. Salvation Army donated 25.00. Accounts paid: general 789.71 relief 49.53 road 947.81. Next meeting set for March 4, 1946 at 11 am.

Miss Mary Young Bride To Be Feted At Shower

Mrs J W Wolfe hosted a miscellaneous shower in honor of Miss Mary Young whose upcoming marriage. Twenty guests attended and took part in contests before the bride opened gifts under an umbrella with pink and white streamers and cupids. Mrs Clayton served tea and lunch was prepared by the hostess with help from Mrs J C Matthews Mrs Harry Otterbein and Miss Relta McNabb.

Former Minister Rev J M Moyer Dies at 81

Retired United Church of Canada minister and former Ontario Temperance Federation director Rev Isaac M Moyer died Sunday at his daughter’s home in Vineland Station near Hamilton. He was 81 and had served 42 years in ministry, including 25 years in Acton. He later worked on the United Church pensions board and chaired Niagara Presbytery. Survived by his daughter and a brother, William H H of Woodstock. His wife died in 1929.
