The death of Harriet Miller known as Aunt Harriet marks the end of an era in Guelph. A colored inmate of House of Providence, she was said to be well over 100 years old and a picturesque city character for more than fifty years, spending the last decade in the care of the Sisters of St. Joseph. A lifelong pipe smoker, she remained fond of her tobacco until shortly before her death.

Motorist Fined for Reckless Driving in Acton District
A Toronto motorist appeared before Magistrate Elliott of MEHOn and was fined plus costs for reckless driving after crashing into the rear of a wagon driven by ML McMeekin, killing two horses. Roy Miller was remanded for a week on a separate charge of obtaining money under false pretences. A hay mow lantern explosion on a Thomas McKerring farm in Esquesing Township caused a fire destroying a barn and stock with $7,000 damage, partially insured. In Glen Williams a double frame house owned by John Wheeler burned completely with no water. neighbours and Georgetown Fire Brigade saved contents. A Vancouver Sunday Province report notes Mrs. Robert Agnew of that city fell from a balcony railing, breaking her arm and ribs. Mr. Agnew is from Acton and related to local families.
