A reflection from the Smith Falls Record-News asserts Santa Claus as the enduring spirit of Christmas beyond appearances. It emphasizes the Christmas heart, kindness, and the Bethlehem story as the true source of joy for both children and adults.
The Financial Post argues Britain will not renew long term food contracts with Canada at favorable prices. War conditions hid costs but postwar reality shows Britain seeking cheapest supplies and abandoning stabilization hopes. Canadian groups had favored higher pay for stability, but no government can fund food above world prices.
The firm reports installation of an automatic press in the commercial printing department after a long search. It expects the new equipment to improve speed and reliability of delivery for commercial printing clients. The company notes prior delays and aims to catch up this season.
The note explains equipment failure caused delivery delays, thanks patrons for forbearance, and promises improved speed once the new press is fully operational. It notes the new machine can run about four times faster than the old presses and expresses a goal to restore timely service.
The piece argues that amid shortages the true emergency is faith and living ideals. It urges individuals to act for others, put national interests first, and live by God’s aims, not personal desires, as the quickest and surest bridge across crises.
The Financial Post argues that short elected terms foster mediocrity in administration and hinder long term, businesslike programs. It calls for lengthening terms to allow leaders to plan and implement civic improvements with more incentive for civic minded service.
Editorial notes reflect a White Christmas outlook across the district with heavy December snowfall and holiday events. The piece cites speed safety on Newark roads, the abundance of Christmas cards, rising union dues in North America, price shifts in lumber and flour, and October retail sales gains, framing festive cheer with cautions about safety and economics.
