The Garrick club of Hamilton will present Ice on parle Francais and Freezing Mother-in-law at the town hall on Thursday Dec 30. Mr W Pantois editor of the Champion is recovering. Mr Joh Bennett has rented his hotel and moved to Streeteville. Harrison is building a new residence on Mill Street. Mrs Wallage of Portland will winter with her sister Mrs J E McCool. Board of Pablo School Trustees term expirations noted for Dr Robertson J Hy McCollom and Johnson Harrison South Ward.
A large turnout attended a Dublin school examination day despite bad weather. Dinner was provided by local ladies, after which teaching continued with various classes. Mr Kerr taught arithmetic, Mr Robertson was elected chair, and a lengthy program followed with music by Arthurs Orchestra and accordion solos.
Georgetown residents enjoy sleighing as winter days shine. Skating rink builders face a setback when wind collapsed the intricate giroular benta. plans now aim to shrink the rink by fifteen feet. Local clergy preach and churches plan Christmas entertainments while Helena Mitchell becomes organist at the Methodist Church.
At a nomination meeting in Brookville Mr Geo Havill of Acton was elected to fill a vacancy in the 4th division of the County Council due to Dr Robertson’s retirement. Township nominees for Reeve Deputy 3 Reeve and three Councillors will meet next Monday the 27th. Also reports of hunts, moves, accidents, and school anniversary services in Noswagawoya and nearby communities.
Ottawa reports Mr. Robert Anderson of London Holand plans to lease a large tract in the Yukon region to mine by hydraulic methods. He says the area offers great potential, will form a company in London, and expects a route via Dawson City to the coast with mounted police stations along the path.
In Cutcano December 21 Mrs George M Pullman chooses to take her dower in her late husband estate rather than abide by the will terms. The arrangement would grant her 3 8 000 000 in personal property and a third of real estate, increasing the estate value to about 15 000 000 from 7 000 000.
Burglars operated at Uxbridge and were overhauled by officers. They entered J F Brownscombe s store in town taking clothing and goods valued around $100. Two suspicious men were seen walking north on the railway track and pled guilty when brought before W Hamilton. Most property was recovered and the pair named McKee and Wilson were committed to Whitby Jail to await trial.
Dec 18 report from Brimuixa Ont. details a severe incident at Morgan's saw mill near Springbrook at about 5 pm. John McDonnel's 12 year old son lost his left arm near the shoulder after a belt caught and tore it off while he played nearby.
Fire on Friel Street claimed Patrick Leahy and five children. The funeral from St. Bridget's Church to the Catholic Cemetery drew a crowded procession with a large crowd following to the burying ground.
Mrs McDermott widow of Ed McDermott of Grin near Everton died Saturday after a long illness. Interment occurred Monday at Everton. Walter Boott of Eramosa drove to Guelph with two maids when a runaway caused a collision injuring Rebecca Scott who broke her collar bone. Walter Bernard charged with forgery appeared at Guélph police court and was remanded for trial after Harry Harvey testified at Traders Bank.
Yesterday afternoon in the local school Miss Ford’s pupils performed creditably in an examination. Charlie Sharp’s shooting match attracted visitors as Christmas turkeys were won by skilled marksmen. Mr and Mrs John Moore plan to attend Ming Maggie Gowdy’s wedding, daughter of former Mayor Gowdy of Guelph, today. Sleighing arrivals brighten our hamlet as inquiries rise about a 14 kilo wood project. Rev D L Campbell officiated acceptably at the Presbyterian church Sunday.
