The holiday season arrives with greetings and thoughts of giving. Residents hope this Christmas will be the most joyful yet as kindness and gifts circulate through the community.
Acton Juniors opened their season with a 5 1 victory over the Stillsburg Tigers before a sizable Arena crowd. Lantz and Margo led the scoring, Carney Byrne held the goal in strong form, and George Tyler stepped in for injured regulars. The win boosts Acton’s mood ahead of next week’s OHA clash with Preston.
Fare Presa representative and the high faith fullness and accuracy in giving the public the full details of the Council proceedings were lauded. Clerk Farmer and the editor of The Fare Paxes replied, expressing pleasure the year had given them, and outlined some features they had noted in Council work in their terms of attending meetings.
The Acton Legion Club Rooms host a festive euchre and dance to raise funds for welfare work. A Christmas toy distribution for veterans’ children followed a Buckingham contest showing a large, well received display. The town hall program included school choruses and a Dickens Christmas Carol, featuring Margaret Chealmers as Ebenezer Scrooge with strong community participation.
On Monday Charles Spiers of Acton was seriously injured when a circular saw blade shattered. A section of the blade struck him, two ribs were severed and his left lung punctured. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Guelph. Pieces of the balance wheel flew through the air, recalled by witnesses as sounding like a wartime shell.
Eramosa Township council met December 15 in the Rockwood Town Hall. W. R. Shaw received damages for a sheep worrying incident and the dog owner to be identified and the dog destroyed. The clerk was to note Mrs. Ellis’s death and forward the notice. Accounts totaled 185.57. Clerk Frank Day was named chairman as Reeve Sims McLean announced intent to run for reeve in 1939 and other councillors signaled reeve aspirations for 1933.
