Exemption Granted to Ontario Farm Worker by High Court
Justice Duff ruled on December 6 in the first test case that a farmer's son, W J Rowntree, employed on a 150 acre Weston Ontario farm for seven years, should be exempt from military service. The decision held that agricultural labor essential to production justifies exemption to maintain national food supply, noting labor shortages. Ottawa, Dec. 8, 1917.
