Beardmore's U.P.W.A. Tanners erased a six run margin with four runs in the ninth to stun the Firefighters 11 8 in the opening playoff game of the tech league. Harry Lawson and Bruce Cargill fueled the comeback with timely hits as the Tanners rallied from an 8 4 deficit.
Campbellville's intermediate team advances to the Ontario finals in Inter B after sweeping Exeter in semis. Campbellville holds 200 hits with pitchers Bennett and Harters keying the win while Mannville and Ajax await the championship winner in a probable best of five series opening in September.
Stan Henders of Campbellville Intermediates blasted a three run homer to key a 64 win over Oakville. The result tied the best of three Halton Championship at one game each after a Wednesday evening in Oakville.
John Leather landed a twin killing to erase a late Dominion Hotel surge as Ledger’s 1.GA shaded a strong finishing hotel squad in game one of a best of three. Howie Leader pitched seven innings for the winners with Jeff Frye aiding in the ninth. Ross Marion lasted seven and a half for the Dominions before Chuck Shultis finished.
Rockwood Bantams received word from the OBSA they will face Dorchester in the second round of their playoffs at Rockwood Park on Saturday. The best two of three series will likely see no return to Dorchester before Monday after Rockwood swept Hensall in two straight to win the first round.
Local note applauds volunteers Don Rader Doc Klein and peers for steering summer action and youth leagues in Tannery Town.
