Acton Water Report Highlights Growth and Capacity Limits
The water report to Acton Council notes population growth from 1955 levels toward 4 000 by next summer and potentially 6 000 in five years. It cites 1955 water use averages of 167 000 gallons daily with 241 500 gallons maximum, and recommends a 200 gallons per minute fire flow and 750 000 gallons storage. Current daily flow is 360 000 gallons with 212 500 gallons storage. Improvements proposed include 4 500 dollars of pipe work and cross connections to prevent dead ends. The report warns Glenlea and Lakeview Heights subdivisions will strain supply by 1957 and a new industry could outpace capacity. Continuous risk if growth continues.
