The episode stirs doubts about the integrity of the patronage and Harold's place in the factory social world.
The Arkwright family moves from the city to the country near Harmony Station for Harold Arkwright to work with the Cumberland Company. Harold, age twenty two, pursues training and a new water pump project while aiding his mother’s health and maintaining ties with the Arkwright household. The story follows travel to the city, meeting associates, and involvement with school movement and local industrial plans.
