Plans for large shopping plaza and 300 homes on McCullough farm

Realtor Alec Johnson reports Heritage Home Ltd of the Rubin Corporation has bought the 100 acre McCullough farm along No. 7 Highway. They plan a large shopping plaza parallel to the highway and 300 homes on remaining land. Annexation and zoning steps are sought with surveyors at work and local merchants given first chance for space. The Rubin Corporation has active Lakeview subdivision work and hopes to start at McCullough farm in 1969.

Acton to annex 69 acres in Esquesing bounded by Mill St and Cobble Hill Rd

Ontario Municipal Board reserved decision on Acton proposal to annex 69 town owned Esquesing acres. Township solicitor Terry Baines reported no objection if area not used for garbage disposal. Head injuries send driver to Western Hospital

An Acton district driver Peete suffered head injuries Friday after a single car crash on Highway 7 at Crewson's Corners. Robert Vietstra of Acton was treated at Georgetown District Hospital and moved to Western Hospital in Toronto. His car loss was about $800. Two other Friday accidents near Acton involved Charles Gillies and Lyle Cripps, with $275 total damage.

Halton County approves eight Burlington reps on new education board

North gains two trustees for separate school board setup

A 14 member County Separate School Board will include one trustee for Acton Milton Esquesing Nassagawega, seven from Burlington five from Oakville and one from Georgetown. Representation is based on residential and farm assessments adjusted by a provincial equalization factor from the Department of Municipal Affairs.

Citizens Band to Ex Thursday at Exhibition

The Acton Citizens' Band led by Dr. George Elliott performs Thursday at 9 30 a.m. in the north bandshell. They compete with Delhi and Beamsville bands, presenting Sun Prairie and a chosen march. Practice every evening this week. Directors listed.

New sewing centre opens on Mill Street soon

Gwen Andrews and Ruth Masales open a sewing centre in the former Toth Shoe Repair shop on Mill Street next Wednesday. The store will offer dress and drapery fabrics, trims, lace, and home sewing supplies with Simplicity Butterick Vogue patterns. Singer Sewing Machines display already in, with 100 roses planned for first customers.

Civiero Construction Wins Halton County Road Contract

Civiero Construction Co. Ltd. of Acton was awarded a 113,626.64 contract to reconstruct 0.45 mile of Waterdown Road in Burlington after submitting the lowest tender. Another tender accepted was All-Weather Asphalt Mix Ltd. for one mile of Trafalgar Road north of the Queen Elizabeth Highway at 486,127.76.

Action by Acton Committee of Adjustment on Monday

The Acton Committee of Adjustment met at the town hall and approved an appeal for a side yard variance for a new addition at MZ Bennett Public School. Carr Surveyors represented a Scarborough man seeking permission to split Lot 8 and Lot 9 on Mowbray Crescent to comply with housing by law. Judgement on the latter application was reserved.

Reliable Taxi break-in nets $230 after 6 a.m. theft

A break-in at Reliable Taxi was discovered Saturday morning at 6 by proprietor Don Grein. Entry was gained by a screen on the north wall. cash totaling $230 was missing. Police continue to investigate the incident.

Milton names two doctors as Halton coroners

Milton doctors Dr. Ivan Hunter and Dr. Donald Aikenhead were named coroners for Halton in Orders in Council dated August 8, announced by Halton MPP Jim Snow. The appointment ends Milton’s recent lack of a coroner since Dr. G E Syer’s resignation. Local facilities at Milton District Hospital now enable local coronial duties, which had previously been conducted in Oakville.

Bus service could halt Friday if transit strike hits

Gray Coach Lines, a TIC subsidiary with about 200 drivers and 16 000 daily riders, may cease all operations in a Toronto transit workers strike. Acton riders depend on buses for work, school, and shopping as the Acton railway station remains closed and the phone disconnected.

Nassagaweya Council discusses County School Board structure on Monday. The debate centers on representation by population versus by area as Nassagaweya’s large area contrasts with Burlington's much larger population.

Young cyclist struck by car fractures skull near Limehouse

Five year old Gregory Wiles of Limehouse was hospitalized with a skull fracture after being struck by a car on 22 Sideroad near Sixth Line. The driver Lorene Sanford of Limehouse remained at the scene. the boy was rushed to Georgetown Hospital and later transferred to Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto for treatment. The report notes school board representation proposals for Nassagaweya and surrounding towns, with Burlington seeking eight seats and other municipalities allocated based on a provincial formula. If County Council accepts the plan Nassagaweya could appeal for a 21 member board rather than 20.
