The meeting covered a draft by law setting standard store hours with weekday and weekend closings and holiday rules. Merchants mostly approved. clerk to prepare the by law for the next session. Also reported tax collection progress and a request for a small Eramosa plowing match donation.
Representive Chief Scout Lord Baden-Powell and Sir Percy Everett arrive at Quebec aboard the Empress of Britain. Sir Percy will tour central divisions across Canada, meeting officials and scouts during the visit.
A barn fire at Archie McMeekin's Fifth Line farm near Brampton damaged a barn valued at about ten thousand dollars and scorched grain and hay. Neighbors aided the Brampton crew after a telephone alarm, despite municipal limits restricting response beyond the town. McMeekin’s roadster and carriage horses also suffered several thousand dollars in losses.
More than 200 guests attended the Maude-McKendry family reunion near Rockwood with a sports program and novelty prizes. Prizes went to the jestins for oldest married couple, to Henry Near for oldest man, and Clifford Maude and his wife as youngest married couple. Doreen Lasby the youngest child. Officers were elected for the coming year and guests hailed from Toronto to British Columbia.
At a Monday meeting the Ontario Baseball Association adjusted Intermediate playdowns placing Acton and Georgetown in a two out of three series for the Intermediate B playoffs. First game Saturday in Georgetown, second in Acton on Monday August 21st, possible third in Acton the following Saturday. Manager Frank Terry trains the team as Acton eyes the title and cup, urging fans to rally strong.
The Knockers bench was silent as the old timers faced the Intermediate team in a 8 8 draw that will require a playoff. Frank Terry pitched for the Intermediates while Old-Timers relied on Bill Nawn Neil Gibbons Tommy Telfer and Dr E J Nelson. The game featured a notable squeeze play from Doc Nelson and Dude Lindsay and Jack Morton’s errorless defense. Bunk Holmes and teammates showcased tricks like the hidden ball, as both sides showed hitting punch and slow base running. The playoff looms as Intermediates seek more practice with Umpires Fred Kentner and Nicolaak officiating.

Trafalgar Township Council spent Tuesday reviewing fire equipment tenders at a special meeting. Demonstrations were shown to councillors and several interested residents toured plants to see the machines in operation.
Acton reports Tanners enter Ontario Softball Playdowns Intermediate Co Group aiming for another championship. They wear colors from hockey title winners and opened with a 16 to 11 loss to Milton Owls. Ten hits yielded 15 runs in two costly innings. Tanners out hit 15 to 13 with 13 left on base. Next game is tomorrow in Millon. Acton must win to stay alive in a best deux sur trois series.
A gathering of about 4,000 attended the eighth annual Blakelock picnic in Trafalgar Park Oakville on Saturday. Programs for children and adults included hotly contested events with victors named, including pie eating and pillow fighting.
About seventy Ontario Scouts from Acton Mimico Centreville Paris 45th Toronto Preston Galt Oshawa and others tested an experimental camp method at Blue Springs Reserve. Yucca Patrols and Pine Tree Patrols carried gear by back and by cart as groups aged gear for hikes five miles from settlements.
Oakville defeated Milton 6 to 5 before 1 500 fans at Victoria Park Oakville winning the OB A Hutton County intervid section final. Walter Gibbs starred allowing six hits while his teammates drove in tying and winning runs in the ninth inning Dakyville contributed the winning RBIs Oakville players Giles Lyons Milton Simms Brush served as umpires Christie Wortley.
Word has reached Acton that Frank Connelly a longtime resident died in Liverpool England while undergoing surgery. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon.
The Eramosa Township council met August 14 at Rockwood Town Hall with Reeve D D Gray and five councillors present. Grants were approved for local fairs and societies totaling 2000 to Plowmen’s Association, 1500 Fergus Fall Fair, 1500 Acton Fall Fair, 10 Erin Fall Fair, and 5 Rockwood Horticultural Society. The meeting referred a river diversion dispute to the County Crown Attorney and approved By law No 8 discounting taxes at 1 by Sept 16 and 1 penalty on Dec 16. An amount was struck off the 1939 Collector’s Roll for clerical errors. No action on grants to County Plowmen’s Association or dog tax refunds. Accounts totaling 942, including 10 rewards for destruction of two sheep-killing dogs, were passed. Council adjourned to Sept 11 at 7 pm.
Acton Citizens' Band performed a well attended afternoon concert in Bungay's Park near the bathing beach. An improvised stand of two trucks hosted the program. Bandmaster Mendham led a varied selection with tendering noted as splendid.
