Mrs Caldwell spoke on The Christian Stewardship of Time while Mrs Kerr and Mrs Caldwell contributed music. Dr Agnew discussed service conditions of mission schools in China. Overseas Boxes for Christmas Funds Sought in Acton District
The War Service League aims to raise about 800 dollars to send Christmas parcels to Acton District servicemen overseas. Proceeds from a recent Firemen’s Convention carnival totaled 401.82 dollars with salvage returns at 87.97 dollars. Expenses included 162 for yarn and 38.50 for salvage, plus 27 for razor blades, 76 for shaving items and 30 for fruit cakes. A minstrel show may be staged in fall to boost this effort. The next meeting is set for Thursday August 19.

Picnic at Acton Park crowns Wool Combing firms’ day of sport
The biggest picnic in Acton Park drew 700 to 800 attendees from the Wool Combing Corporation of Canada Limited and the Canadian Wool Company Limited. Night shift WC C won the horseshoe pitching and softball titles and battled to victory in the tug of war final, as Lord Barnby Trophy was presented with messages from Lord Burnby. A full social day featured Lorne Scots Band, generous refreshments, a baby show, races, and multiple event results across committees and family participants.

Eramosa Seeks 2000 Dollar Road Expenditure Increase
Eramosa Township council met at Rockwood Town Hall at 7 p m with Reeve D D Gray presiding and councillors present. They passed By law No 6 to request a 2000 increase in 1943 road funds from the Department of Highways due to higher maintenance costs and authorized tenders for snow plow tractors to be received by noon September 13. Fergus and Acton Fall fairs were granted 15 and 10 respectively, and accounts totaling 442 47 were approved for payment before adjourning to September 13.
