Ontario Firemen Parade Closes 37th Convention in Oakville
Oakville hosted the Ontario Volunteer Firemen's Association convention with 34 fire departments and bands participating in a three day celebration marking Oakville’s 70th anniversary. Thorold South won best platoon drill while Petrolia took top turnout in the parade and Port Colborne placed second after Dundas earned special mention. Bands from Toronto and Hamilton added to the mile long procession and emergency drill demonstrations entertained crowds.

The annual prenie and softball finals of the Halton Presbytery Young People's Union were held on Acton school grounds with Carlisle and Melville in the softball final. Carlisle won the championship after a competitive game. An accident marred the picnic outing when a batter’s bat struck Miss Smarehy Dennett on the head, requiring stitches and medical attention.

Exoneration of Hamilton truck driver in youth death verdict
A coroner's jury absolved William A. McKeen, driver of a Hamilton fruit truck, of negligence in the death of 20 year old Erin Township farm hand John Young. The July incident on the Guelph Hamilton Highway near Guelph caused Young's fatal injuries as he walked on the pavement.
