Acton Celebrates Return of Overseas Soldiers
Sergt. Max Storey and Privates Gordon Babcock and Sam Gixby returned to Acton from sixteen months overseas with the Perth Regiment. Storey, after London and Ulster postings, praised wartime rationing and parcels, noting regular parcels and smokes aided comrades. Babcock and Gixby were invalided to Canada and treated at Chorley Park Hospital.

The Women's Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church held a Special Easter Offering meeting on Thursday April 8 in Knox Church Sunday School Room. A large attendance included tables from various churches. Mrs Fred Blow presided and devotional periods were led by E E Barr Forbes Thomson and Mrs W Gould. Miss Pelton of Toronto gave an instructive address on The Work of Missions Relative to the Post War World. E J Wassard presented Mrs F Blow on behalf of daughter Dorie with a membership certificate pin. The meeting closed with Benediction by Forbes Thomson.

The twenty ninth Annual Meeting of Ontario Provincial Society WMS of the Presbyterian Church met at St Andrew's Church Guelph. Delegates from Acton attended sessions with Mrs F S Blow and Miss Marguerite Westell among speakers. President Mrs V A Smith presided. 28 Provincial Officers 18 Secretaries 2 Presidents and 75 visitors registered. Delegates stressed postwar missionary planning as the Christian worker of today becomes tomorrow's peacemaker.

Halton Sets 2,400,000 Fourth Victory Loan Goal

Scout Mothers to Buy Sweaters for Cubs
The Fewlar monthly meeting of the Scout Mothers Auxiliary was held at Mrs. BE Rhrr's home. A report on the Scout banquet was presented and thanks extended to Mrs. J. H. Bouton and all helpers. It was decided to purchase sweaters for Cubs lacking uniforms. The meeting ended with a benediction, social hour, a reading by Mrs. D. Richardson, and a light lunch hosted by Mrs. Barr with assistance from Mrs. Hunter and Mrs. Thorarinson.

The Acton and Vicinity War Service League reports a treasurer’s balance of 104.80 and 20.30 in receipts. Public Health Nurse Starts Work in Municipalities
Mina Walker the public health nurse begins duties in Acton Georgetown and Millan on the first of the month. Miss Phinock from Ontario Department of Health assists in planning quarters and equipment. The old chemistry room at Acton School is set aside and being fitted for her use with new equipment funded by the local committee. A meeting of town representatives was held in Georgetown. Nurse Walker will spend about two days weekly in each municipality.

Road Costs and Gravel Contract of Eramosa Approved
The Township of Ernamosa council met to approve auditors reports for early 1940s finances. It reduced taxes by 42.12 and 23.74, set relief and wages, and accepted a gravel contract and road expenditure of 9000 for 1943. It filed letters from highways and aid agencies and ordered hospital accounts paid or reclaimed. Council adjourned to May 10 after passing 933.58 in accounts.

Acton Pupils Sweep County Essay Contest Prizes
In the annual county essay contest on The Life of Lord Nelson Acton Public School students claimed top honors. Aileen McIsane won first prize of 5 dollars, Dean Branfin won fifth prize and a dollar, with 23 essays entered and George Haardland securing the second prize of 3 dollars. The event honors Mrs Callin Campbell in Winnipeg.
