Laurier Retires as Liberal Party Leader in Canada

Ottawa reports Sir Wilfrid Laurier has retired from Liberal Party leadership and placed his resignation with House followers to be accepted. A new leader will be chosen by Liberal members at a convention. Col. C. C. Ballantyne of Montreal accepts public works portfolio and was sworn in this afternoon.

Appeal for Joint War Committee funds by St John and Red Cross

The Joint War Committee appeals to supporters at home and overseas for funds to continue Red Cross work aiding sick and wounded of His Majesty's Forces. The Oct eighteenth appeal notes eight thousand pounds daily costs, with support needed to sustain relief in all theatres and for Empire troops. Conference of Lower Mainland Institutes in Mission City Hall

The annual conference of the Lower Mainland Women's Institutes will be held at Mission City Agricultural Hall on Thursday and Friday October 11th and 12th. Visitors from Kootenay Okanagan and Vancouver Island will attend. Ladies of the district not members are invited to attend any sessions.

A detailed two day timetable for Institute activities starts Thursday October 11 at 9 am with O Canada and reports from institutes. Change of Whelable Ferry Timetable Notice

The Mis sion Matsqui ferry service will change on October 10. The last weekday sailings will be 5 48 p m from Mission and 6 00 p m from Matsqui. Sunday last boats will be 8 00 a m and 7 30 p m. Winter timetable mirrors summer.

A Fraser Valley ministerial association meeting on Monday in Abbotsford featured a speech by Mr Slaven of Aldergrove. He spoke about three years of missionary work in Sowth Africa, detailing his experiences and call to service.

Last Sad Rieles Buried in Flatzir Cemetery

Gottfred Johnson died at twenty six and was buried Tuesday at Flatzir Cemetery. Survived by father, mother, three married sisters, four sisters and three brothers at home. Many friends sent flowers, including Mr and Mrs Asser Mind, Ostrom, Hill, J D Clark, Arnett, Albin Gustafson, Miss French, Hougen, Sorenson, Halverson. Family thanks friends for sympathy in bereavement.

Inquest Finds Gottfred Johnson Died by Drowning

The inquest into the death of Gottfred Johnson, found near the Prasur River at Haney, determined the cause was drowning in the Prager river with unknown circumstances. The record notes he entered the water from an unknown cause and that the body was recovered shortly after.

Visit of Canadian university guests to Milselow City

A Canadian group led by God Save Tif King accompanied by faculty from Cantera Sides and Bolus, including CG and University staff, will visit Milselow City. Sessions occur in Agricultural Hall with luncheons and tea daily. An informal welcome social is planned Wednesday evening October 10.
