Mrs McLagan of Abbotsford inspires Belgian Relief Fund donors with a $200 donation for Belgian families during winter. The Belgian Consul, John M. Whitehead, notes $12,000 total collected and plans to buy BC goods for shipment to Montreal next week.
Forty five couples gathered in Orange Hall for an All Hallows party with duck apple games and dancing to Miss Walters and Messrs Abbott and Gray. Autumn leaves and Japanese lanterns decorated the room while ghosts and witches arrived by aeroplane. Guests visited Mrs Boyd's residence later, and Mrs William Roberts and Mrs Taylor were praised for a joyous evening. The catch phrase was Dont wink at my wife.
The Cinderella social at the residence of Mr and Mrs J P Boyd last week met the high standard of St Matthews Church events. Fun filled a versatile program with miniature shoes serving as admission tickets based on size.
A Patriotic Concert and Ball in Matsqui Municipal Hall on Friday evening drew a large crowd despite a stormy night. Reeve Merryfield opened with a speech noting proceeds would go to the Canadian Patriotic Fund. The program included songs recitations and instrumental music with several local performers and a chorus from Dipach school. An address by Mr. Alex Cruickshank contrasted German autocracy with British democracy. Net proceeds totaled $50 and were given to James Gibson Matsqui Branch Patriotic Association secretary treasurer.
Four men were found in Vancouver with stolen goods matching a Mission City burglary at M DesBrisay & Co. The goods were identified and largely recovered. Two men, Frank Allen and Thomas Smith, were in Mission City and will face trial. A fourth party faces Vancouver court charges for receiving stolen goods. A. W. Kraemer’s boat was also stolen and used to travel to Vancouver.
A report notes a total of $300 was collected toward the Aggustz Patriotic Fund, indicating a successful local fundraising effort and community support for the cause.

Halloween spirit inspires local youths to stage pranks on a Saturday night. Garden gates were found on distant fences and trailers and rigs were piled in unusual places across the town, creating a curious scene.
The Abbotsford community and surrounding district show strong patriotism by contributing two hundred dollars to the Belgian Consul in Vancouver for relief of distressed Belgian citizens. The donation reflects local loyalty and support for famine and hardship in Belgium.
Friends of Mrs. Eby gathered Wednesday evening for a social at her home. About sixteen attendees enjoyed whisk and companionship for several hours. Prizes included a gold lined photo frame won by Mr. Johnson and a bottle of ketchup secured by Mrs. McMenemy.
In border regions between Canada and Washington state the anti-saloon side won the big contest. Residents on both sides of the border express joy, believing their positions have justification.
