A party of young people traveling toward Sumas with Mr. Thomas had a buggy gear break causing the horse to bolt. All occupants were spilled near the roadside with Miss Messick slightly cut and Mr Thomas bruised in shoulder and ankle. They walked back to town.
A party of Masons from the Abbotsford and Sumas lodges visited their Mission City brethren on Wednesday evening. The members reported a pleasant time and included Messrs. Swift Scotswold Morley Shortréed Salt and Roberts Abbotsford Gough Clayburn Clarke Hastings Marsh Davis Hav erstick Green and Cook Sumas.
At the New Era Lodge 244 Loyal True Blues Abbotsford delegates were named to attend the Grand Lodge in New Westminster on May 29 and 30. The appointees are Mrs D Omery Mrs Hicks Mrs D Smith Rev J L Campbell F Wooler and J Gamble. The regular meeting was well attended and transacted much business.

The annual meeting of the W. C. T. U. met in the Presbyterian church on Monday May Ath. Officers for the coming year were installed including Rev J. L. Campbell as President and Mrs. Trethewey as President. Delegates to the Victoria convention in June were chosen: Mrs. J L Campbell, Mrs. Miller, and Mrs. Trethawey.
Rumor says a May Day picnic from Abbotsford to Mission City will occur on Empiré Day May 26. Students from the May Day concert will perform in Mission afternoon while local baseball players may play a game. Full details to follow inviting everyone to join.
Next Sunday May 15 marked as Mothers Day in churches and Sunday Schools. Children should wear carnations. pink if their mother is living, white if not. Loyal True Blue Lodge New Era provide the carnations for both Sunday Schools.
Miss Atkinson of Sumas Prairie buys a motor car and learns to operate it while avoiding straying poultry and other hazards on the road.
Matsque and Sumas councils held their regular monthly meetings. Topics include road work, fence repairs, ditching, subdivision plans, and budget items with approvals for specific expenditures and repairs. The Sumas group adjourned for Court of Revision before approving the 1914 rate by law and spending plans.
The motion grants the assessor access to the assessment roll until the court of revision sits. Melander McCallum votes carried. The assessor is to be paid 150 dollars on account. (Continued on page 2)
A May concert and dance drew over 600 attendees, with many turned away. A post concert supper was served and cream available in the refreshment room. Youth races and games followed, including 25, 50, 60, and 100 yard events for boys and girls, plus a tug of war and throwing contests. Baseball results show Mission City 6, Bustord 5.
The True Blue Lodge New Era No 244 of Abbotsford thanks all who helped with May Day efforts. Special mention goes to Mrs Wolfe Miss Waugh Mrs G C Clark and the mothers of the children for their hours of practice and support. Mr J Higginson contributes a large donation from his pocket.
An ode praising kickers who endure and find rest as May Day passes. The verse names Jimmie and expresses blessing their skill and perseverance after a hard effort.
