Sumas Council Discusses Cemetery Prices and Villainous Youths
At the Sumas Council meeting on Saturday February 4 William Porter urged raising cemetery lot prices to keep the institution self sustaining. Reeve Fooks warned higher costs would make dying unpopular. Cemetery lots priced at twenty dollars or five dollars for a single grave, a one hundred percent increase. Council also tackled local vandalism by mischievous youths including stone throwing and garden damage. parents will be notified no leniency. John Murphy sought to settle a dispute with neighbor G Cox over a roadway between their properties. council cannot grant a permit but will declare the road open in sixty days, limiting both parties’ actions. The land involved amounts to about one sixteenth of an acre.

Death calls another pioneer of the district
Funeral services for Ist(e) Thomas Bradner were held at All Saints church Mission City and Hateii cemetery, conducted by Rev J Weatherdon. Born 1854 in Ireland, Bradner moved from Port Arthur to British Columbia and helped establish a bush ranch near Matsqui. Survived by wife and large family, his death follows a long residence and community service in the area.
