A well attended PTA meeting was held in the schoolhouse on Friday afternoon. It was decided to hold a whist drive on February 1 in the Masonic Hall to raise funds for the school cloakroom. Mrs Hinchley from Victoria visited her sister, Mrs Huggins, and Blathmore's orchestra will provide music for the dance after the concert.
Mr James Downie of London received clippings about the funeral of Sir Arthur Pearson, founder and philanthropist who championed blindness relief. A large turnout including the King Queen Alexandra and many notables mourned the loss. Hymns like Lead Kindly Light and Abide with Me were sung as wreaths signaled royal sympathy for a man who promoted victory over blindness.
The Matsqui Sumas Abbotsford Poultry Association elected all last year’s officers by acclamation at the Bank of Montreal chambers. The president and secretary will arrange next month’s meeting to show government moving pictures, raffle valuable cockerels, and host a poultry expert lecture. Abbotsford’s Major J L Preston led the Vancouver Provincial Poultry Exhibition with top prizes for white Leghorn birds, signaling strong local interest and a promising year ahead.
A banquet is to be held in Chilliwack on February 2 with M. P elect Mr. Munro and Hon. B. D. Barrow M L A as speakers. A special train will run from Abbotsford for those wishing to attend.
The Deanery of Yale met January 17 18 at St Matthew's Abbotsford with Archdeacon Heathcote Rev Ragg and others. Priest A H Priest elected secretary, Titus sermon on grace, Holy Communion, discussion on church issues, next meeting set for Langley Prairie, services begin January 22 with 11 o'clock Holy Communion.
The Sunday School Orchestra annual meeting was hosted by Mrs. G R Wright. Officers elected include President Alex McCallum Vice President Mrs O R Wright Secretary Treasurer Mrs A Taylor Executive members Mrs E A Hunt Mrs A McInnis and Mr G Wright A report highlighted the past year and a concert was planned for early spring to aid the new Mat Aqui Sumas Abbotsford Hospital
A big dance to be held in Abbotsford theatre on February 10 featuring a new six piece orchestra, reviving old time dances. The Grand Hotel at Sumas under new management with the Parkingons arriving in Sumas to run the hotel. Mrs C A Ryall visited Mission City with her daughter Mrs C McCallum and attended St Matthew's Church Abbotsford on the fourth Sunday each month.
