Matsqui School Board Votes on Budgets and Staffing
At the Matsqui board meeting in the Agricultural hall at Gifford trustees raised the year’s estimates to 10000 from 9000 and the school district plans to cover emergencies. Re-elected chairman George F. Pratt and secretary Wm. Merryfield keep last year’s salaries. A new janitor, A. S. Campbell, arrives with $450 yearly pay and house use. Miss Daisy Jones resigns as high school teacher. Miss Nya Stewart substitutes. Miss Eva May Wasper takes position in Vancouver. Jubilee school closed. four to five pupils remain, and trusties arrange transport to Mt Lehman. An Abbotsford bill for Matsqui pupils totals over 600 and payment is delayed. Gasoline pump installed in Matsqui school during a power outage is approved. janitor wages under review.

Matsqui Council Sets Wages and Appointments
The Matsqui Municipal council met to fix wage rates for foremen and laborers at forty and thirty four cents per hour, appoint Wm Taylor as engineer, reappoint Dr R H Port as medical health officer, and reappoint John LeFeuvre as clerk and chairman of finance and works. The health report urged treating well water to prevent goitre in some districts.

Night of Burns Charity Event Draws Crowd at Masonic Hall
At the Masonic hall on Friday night January 25, a Burns supper and concert fundraiser benefited the Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid. Receipts reached 59 dollars with about 8 dollars in expenses. Speakers Rev Bruce, Rev William Robertson, and Mrs J L Campbell discussed Burns life and poetry amid a Scotch reading and music by local artists. Refreshments followed with the usual Scottish fare.
