Sumas Lake Reclamation Plan Gains Provincial Backing
The British Columbia cabinet approves the Sumas Lake drainage project led by engineers Brice and Smith to build a 46 000 acre reclaimed area. A giant Fraser River dyke and Vedder River pumping system will divert floodwaters, creating a fertile land valued at about six million dollars. The plan envisions two years of work, pumping stations, a large main dyke, and jobs for returning soldiers as lands are opened for settlement.

Vancouver Boosts Highway Plans From North Vancouver to Lillooet
A Vancouver transport meeting heard G A Kent outline routes for a western coast highway from North Vancouver to Lillooet via Howe Sound Squamish and Pemberton with an estimated cost of 1 600 000. Other proposals would run from the coast to Hope via Chill Wack and Princeton and from Hope along the Fraser River canyon to Lillooet. Kent said the North Vancouver to Lillooet road offers Vancouver’s best chance to avoid being sidetracked by tourist traffic to the south. The speaker argued Vancouver would attract tourists to the sea coast metropolis regardless of route.
