Black of 325 Anna street have received word of the circumstances surrounding the death of their son, Sgt. Ronald L. Black, killed Sept. 11 at Thuy Phuong village, Vietnam.The letter was from Lt. Col. Robert J. Keller, commander, U.S. Marine Corps.Excerpts from the letter were: “. . .He was a fine young man whose presence will be missed by all who knew him. Ronald was a member of a Combined Action Platoon in the village of Thuy Phuong, Huong |phuy District, Thua Thien Province, Republic of Vietnam.“At approximately 0315 on the morning pf 11 Skpt. 1967 the compound in which your son was located came under heavy attack from a large Viet Cong force. When the attack commenced Ronald was in a sandbagged bunker on the defensive perimeter. In the initial assault a Viet Cong projectile penetrated the bunker manned by your son, exploded inside and fatally wounded him.“Death was instantaneous. Ronald’s fellow Marines, though greatly outnumbered, continued to fight and were eventually able to drive off the attacking force.“It may comfort you to know that a memorial service in honor of your son is (was) scheduled on 15 Sept. 1967. Many of Ills friends are planning to attend. . . .His cheerful, friendly attitude and ability to do a job well won for him the respect and admiration of many persons. .The letter from the Marine Lt.
