Oovernmont Operatives Inves-tig-atins’ Activities Of Organization In Ohio CityCDKVKDAND, Sept. 26.—Government secret service operatives, direct from Washington, have been keeping activities of the Cleveland I Klu Klux Klan under surveillance for more than two weeks, it was learned here today.Cleveland was chosen as the city to watch because it was believed the base of klan operations for one of the largest territories in the country.The first man In Cleveland askedto enroll in the klan was said to havebeen Police Chief Smith. Smith said today he declined.A double barreled attack on the klan was scheduled when city council meets tonight. Councilman Adam I J. Damm and Herman H. Finkle, both declared they would introduce! legislative measures intended to curb activities of the klan here. Finkle*s resolution will provide a penalty for! officers or organizers of the klan.Despite opposition of Mayor Fitzgerald and other public officials, local Klu Klux Klan authorities announced that at a secret initiation, service last Friday 27 4 new members were enrolled, making the total number of Clevelanders in the organization 4,326. 1-
