acnoois win vie For Cash PrizesIn Salvage DriveThe Portsmouth Salvage committee announced this morning that prizes in cash awards totalling $90 had been posted by the Portsmouth Herald in connection with the collection of scrap metal by the school children of the city during the Newspapers' United Scrap Metal Drive which ends Oct. 17.Chairman Prank W. Hollis of the committee stated that the ca-operation of the school officials had been promised in this drive and that the eiementary schools which collected the most metal scrap during the drive would receive cash awards.Three schools of the city would win the awards, according to Mr. Hollis. The school collecting the most poundage will receive $50; the school collecting the next highest amount will receive $25, and the third ranking school will receive $15.The manner in which these awards utilized wfil be left entirely to the discretion of the principal and teachers of the winning schools.In making this anouncement for the committee Mr. Hollis stated: ‘The school children of Portsmouth will carry out the slogan of theirIJ5MC Onpncnational drive which starts Friday— Save, Serve and Conserve.” by Joining with their parents In this most important of civilian war measures.
