Participating in the program in Las Angeles, whose population includes the third largest concentration of persons of Mexican descent, were Vice-President Henry A. Wallace; Lie.Miguel Aleman, president of the, Mexican cabinet and secretary of astroi the interior for the republic, and General Ansel mo Macias V., governor of the state of Sonora.Jacome attended the ceremonies as a personal guest of Governor Macias, and assisted him in an interpretive capacity during speaking engagements. Governor Macias participated in the celebration as a good-will envoy of President Avila Camacho, who was officially represented by Lie. Miguel Aleman.Control AliensIn discussions with the Mexican secretary of the interior, Jacome learned that effective methods have been established to control enemy aliens within the Mexican republic, most of whom are either in government concentration camp? or under the vigilance of federal authorities.“The United States and Mexicohave the necessity of retainingcordial relations,” Mr. Jacome stated, especially now during the war. and following it.” He reported that the present diplomatic and political relations between Mexico and the United States are verywTfavorable; that the war has firmlv united them in a common cause, and that international relations will become increasingly better.Good Will ExponentGovernor Macias of Sonora state, which borders Arizona on the south, is a leading exponent of the good neighbor policy, and has initiated many movements to cement friendships between Mexico and the United States. He has officially declared the Fourth of July as a holiday throughout his state, an action which has since been reciprocated by Governor Osborn of Arizona.
