Pederson, attended the officialopening of the new Civil Defense Commission Southern District Office, located on grounds adjacent to the Hudson River State Hospital in PoughkeepsieImmediately following the open*ing, civil defense officials from theSouthern District convened in the new facility’s Operations Room to outline plans for participation in Operation Ever Ready/’ an exercise to be conducted a! district level which is designed to improve the operational capability of local civil defense jurisdictions.The Southern District Office is an8700 square foot below ground installation, and Ls designed to re* main fully operational during either a nuclear or natural disaster Auxiliary power generators assure the facilitv adequate power for operations and communications if external sources are disrupted.Supplies of water, food, fuel and other necessities are on 4he premises in quantities adequate to sustain 100 persons—It he plannedemergency staff—for two weeksDuring normal day to day opera-♦ions. a staff of five full time civildefense employees handles routineadministrative and operational duties.Telephone, teletype, radio andother communications equipment is installed to permit transmission ofPolio Clinic AtCarmel Sept. 17thA polio immunisation clinic will be hel-d on Wednesday.
