Win, 9, Winegar is to be delivered next Sabbath at half past ten r. a., iu the Methodist church at Emerald Grove, by the Rev. Mi-Whitford, of Mil ton.Mr, Winegar was but 22 years of age at ibe time of his death. At the time the call was issued for volunteers he was pursuing his studies at Milton, but he promptly responded to the call, and enlisted iu thac noble regiment, the second Wisconsin. At the first battle of Bull Run he was slightly wounded in the bead by a spent ball, bti-stili advancing be was again wounded severely in the knee, and was carried from the field. lie cams home on furlough to recruit his shattered health, returned to his duties as soon as he was able, and was pro-rooted to a second lieutenancy for hia bravery at the battle of Bull Run, his commission doting from that any. He was billed on the 1st da}' of .J uly wbUe bravely fighting in the bn; tie of Gettysburg. We hoped lor a short time that tho vague report of his death that reached us was false, but the snd tidings were soon confirmed. Hia friends made an effort to procure the body for interment in the family burying ground, but without success. There was nothing to mark I he last resting place of the fallen patriot. His race is ended: hia mission on earth has terminated ’ on the bloody field of Geltyoburg, in au unknown grave, rests the romains of the noble soldier and : patriot, Lieut. Wm. S. Winegar.The following resolutions were unanimously passed last evening, Sept. 7th, «fc a special meeting meeting of the Union League :Whereaf, The aad intelligence of the death of our late neighbor and friend, Lieut. Wm.S, Wincgar, of the 2d regiment of Wisconsin volunteers, has been confirmed, and, Whereas, we, his late neighbors and friends, are desirous of recording our sense of the loss of one so eminent as a sol dier and patriot— of one who has gi ven hifl life for the cause of his country ; therefore,Resolved^ That in the death of Lieut. Wm. S, Winegar we have met with an irreparable loss, and we deeply, deplore the sad event which has deprived our country of a meritorious officer, a brave man, and a true patriot.Jtesotved, That in respect for the memory of Lieut, Wm. 8- Winegar, we will at-tend the services on the occasion of his death, to be held next Sabbath at Emerald Grcve, and that a copy of theso proceed' ings be transmitted to the family of the lamented deceased, and also a copy to tbe Janesville Gazette for publication.THUS. 0.
