F. Sabine Meachent, head of the unit, received a telegram from Mrs. Wales Latham, national chairman of the committee, which read In part:•We have been asked to send warm clothing, including many knitted arli clues, lo completely outfit 5,000 seamen for newly nc-ouired destroyers. It will cost $25,-000. Will your Syracuse group relp meet this demand, which is urgent and immediate?”The drive got under way todayand a contribution box was set up in the lobby of the Merchants National Bank and Trust Company after Crandall Melvin, president of the bank, had deposited the Initial donation in the box. Mrs. Arthur G. Chase of Bundles for Britain” headquarters here called on Mr. Melvin,Mayor Marvin Is wholeheartedly behind the drive for funds in this locality, Mrs. Meachem said, and though the Jncal branch of Bundles for Britain located in Emily Mundy’s bookshop, 429 South Warren Street, has been open less than a week, the supply of yam for knitted articles was exhauted at the dose of the second day.from abandonment of the present building for all but the most essential village purposes and razing of Trinity Presbyterian Church which had served as a village meeting place.The new hall would house village offices, a library, village trucks and records and fire equipment.
