San Benito citizens believe they are n,hout (o solve nn important problem through the holding of a meeting in that town lost night attended by more limn 200 Mexican residents of the town. Sam Robertson, president of' the San Benito Rio Grande Valiev railroad, for many years a heavy employer of Mexican tabor and who understands the race thoroughly, addressed the crowd in the Mexican section of Ihe town. Mr. Robert son urged (he Mexican « tn cooperate with the Americans in thework of restoring order in that section, stating that lie knew as well as they thatless than one per cent of the Mexicans in this section are in any way responsible orin the remotest implicated in the (roublesAt the same time Mr. Robertson announced that on Tuesday between 8ft and .100 Mexicans in the Sun Benito district, rancheros and others, voluntarily turned ti^ir arms and ammunition over to him, a»d they were issued receipts. The rifles, pistols, shotguns mid other weapons were deposited in a Ban Benito bank, and receipts were issued to their owners, to be turned over to them when the troubles are at an end. Mr. Robertson announced also that he was to leave Ban Benito today for surrounding ranches where Mexicans had offered to turn over their arms and ammunition.The audience of Mexican residents of the San Benito community roundly applauded Mr. Robertson during the course of his remarks, indicating to those in charge of the meeting that cooperation by the Mexican citizens of San Benito could be counted nponT Judge Samuel Spears also addressed the audience, with MiguelGarcia, n well known business man of San Benito, interpreting.Mnvor !lt;yons of Sun Benito has issued a proclamation in which he announces that every citizen of San Benito between the-ages of 21 and Oft is subject to special police duly, nil subject to the orders of Cif.v Marshal J. Frank Carr, who isalso deputy sheriff at San Benito. Men of the ages required will report to t|ie city clerk a list of their arms and ammunition, and no man will be permitted to leave the city on “bandit hunts” without n permit by the city marshal. This action was taken it was slated, to prevent a-general exodus of vigilantes upon the receipt of ^bandit warnings” and to make searches the more systematic. It was made clear today that this proclamation does not mean that every citizen of the ages named is authorized to carry a gun. That, permission wlil be given only when the citizen is deputized by the eftv marshal, and is in possession of certain orders.Two More Bandits Killed at Fresno*.News reached San Benito today that two more bandits were killed late yes ter-d*v on the Fresnos tract. The men were identified as being part of the band which last week terrorized flip Fresnos tract,Jkilling two Americans.Now Evidence of Plots Unearthed.Texas rangers on duty in this section are spending most of their time now in police duty, searching out evidence in connection with the plans of certain Mexicans to regain a portion of the American states bordering on Mexico. Much of this additional evidence is being turned up in searches through jueals and huts in outlying ranches so much that there is increasing evidence that many plots existed alohg the lines of the famous “Plan of San Diego” Many circulars urging uprising are bein* found, and in one case officers obtained possession of a circular letter addressed to a run cl u* ro staling that when the uprising has started and is under way and Ihe plan is sueee.-^ful ail participants who live after.Battle will be welt paid.
