Navy Fireman From Daisetta Confirmed as DeadALDEN LOVELACE KERNOfficial confirmation of the death of Alden Ixmdace (Mike) Kern, Fireman First Clans, IJSNK, during the bombing of a whip in the Pacific theater, has been received by Ids mother, Mrs. Aurice Kern of Pelly.Tiie message from the Navy Department stated that “a .careful review of all the facts a^allahh* relating to the disappearai^e lt;^f your son, Alden Lovelace, previously reported missing in action,leads to the conclusion that thereis no hope of bis survival ^nd that be lost ids life as a result of enemy action on 'May 28, while in the service of ids country/'Prior to entering service Kern was a student at Hull-Daisetta High School, and was later employed in the insulation department of Baytown Refinery.Kern's brother, S/Sgt. I^awrence Kern was killed September 2(5, 19-42, in a plane crash in Europe.Another brother, Pfc. Bill Kern has just returned from Europe under the military rule that the last surviving son in a family may be relieved from hazardous military duty.Survivors Include the mother, brother, and four sisters, Mrs. Stella Mae Bussey, Mrs. Hoxie Mock.Mrs. Emma Pulliam and MissJaque Kern, all of the Tri-Cities. The Kern family formerly lived in Daisetta and the boys all attended school there.
