Mahoney, 46, of Corsicana, owner and operator of the Mahoney Ford Co. in Kerens and Tommie Ed. Taylor, 23, address uncertain, were identified as the fatalities, reported Highway Patrolman Robert Parrish.Patrolman Parrish said Mahoney’s watch stopped at 8:40 p.m. and this is the hour at which he recorded the time of the accident.He said Mahoney was traveling west on Hwy. 31,2.6 miles east of Powell when he apparently lost control of his pickup truck on wet pavement and it skidded into the path of a 1959 model auto driven by Lloyd Andrews of Dallas.The Andrews vehicle struck the pickup in the right door, and both vehicles came to rest at the point of impact, witnesses said.Taylor was a passenger in the Andrews- vehicle along with Mary Katherine Polk, 23, of Dallas.Ambulances from Kerens and Corsicana brought the wreck victims to Memorial Hospital here where Taylor was pronounced dead on arrival.Mahoney was given treatment and was transferred to a Dallas hospital quickly. He died later in Dallas.Mary Polk was admitted to Memorial with multiple lacerations of the face, left leg and right hand, and Andrews was treated for chin lacerations anddismissed.About two-thirds of the highway was blocked for nearly two hours but traffic, which was not heavy, was routed around the wrecked cars on the shoulder of the road.Funeral services for Mahoney will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. J. W. Dammon will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Cecil Thompson. Interment will be at Hamilton Cemetery.Surviving are his wife, Mrs. W. F. Mahoney of Corsicana; a daughter, Carolyn Mahoney of Corsicana; his mother, Mrs. Lee Mahoney of Emhouse; and five sisters, Mrs. 0. J. Higgins and Mrs. Joe Ivie of Fort Worth, Mrs. J. M. Burns of Stephenville, Mrs. Bobby Brown of Garland and Mrs. Terry Pate of Dallas.Pallbearers will be Charles Cates, W. C. Ray, June P. Clark, J. Floyd Smith, Clyde Andrews, Victor Howell, Aubrey Asby and Joe Wilson.Taylor’s body was taken to Scott Funeral Home where efforts were being made this morning to locate relatives. Newsmen on the scene have reported the guerrillas already occupy Aiha, but the Lebanese army has not admitted this.The new fighting came amid indications from Cairo that prospects for a peace agreement were improving. An Egyptian spokesman said Egypt had approved Lebanon’s proposals for peace with the guerrillas, had agreed to mediate, and had invited guerrilla chief Yassir Arafat to Cairo for peace talks.At Klayat, in north Lebanon about three miles from the Syrian border, the guerrillas were driven off after a 30-minute gun fight and suffered heavy losses, the Lebanese communique said. It reported one building hit by a rocket, the runway slightly damaged and one soldier wounded.Klayat was used by Lebanon’s new Mirage jet fighters until they were moved to a less vulnerable base after the conflict with the guerrillas developed.
