In one end of n portable apparatus is a magnet, connected with an amplifying outfit that transmits to ear phoues ihe fact that inetal Is In the grouud beneathThen tho searchers dig. sometimes one iueh and other occasions more in their efforts to locate the metal signified by the magnet, it was In thismanner that the 70 pieces new owned by Mr. Leonard, and which later will be placed In the McClellan Leonard exhibit In the Public Library, were located. The men in their 6cnrcli are covering Rraddock'a route of retreat, working for the most part In the vicinity of Dunbar’s Camp. When the magnet begins to work ibe searchers can feel assured that there Is metal beucaih. The apparatus Is still being proved, having been conceived about five years ago. Changes are made from time to time to Improve the equipment until today it will detect metal of sufficient size from six To ten feet in the ground.Mr. Herr used the equipment when on an European tour, uncovering mine rous relics in Kurland and Italy. The equipment is especially adaptable for archeology and hunting for old relics. It Is ligln and easily handled.V. F. W. POST TOO. O. P. Rallies
