B. Zachry Company and H. B, Zachry who in a long distance phone conversation from El Paso Thursday, assured Gilbert I. Garretson Chamber of Commerce manager that he would fly to San Antonio and meet the delegation today.“No stone has been left unturned to secure the air base,*' Garretson 6a id Friday. “All members of the Chamber of Commerce Committee, Pdayor Cluck and Engineer Heins have been working tirelessly. I know trie competition for the base is keen and that a dozen other Texas cities arey making bids, but there is no reason why Laredo shouldn't stand an excellent chance. At least we have the satisfaction .of knowing that every effort has been made that nothing has been left undone.If Laredo secures the base it willmean the quartering of 2500 air cadetsin barracks on the new air field.These barracks will be built by theair corps. In addition, there will be150 unmarried officers living on thereservation and 100 married officersand their families in downtown La-xedo. It will mean an average pay-2 oil of approximately §2,00,000 per year.
