Boothwyn Sailor Survives Sinking Of USS PirateA 28-year-old Boothwyn sailoi*, recalled to active duty Aug. 14, is a survivor of the ill-fated U. S. S. Pirate, a mine-sweeper sunk by Rus-i sian-type mines ofT the Korean coast 11 on Oct. 12.Fred J. Neeson. of 917 Thorton rd., a first class quartermaster signalman, notified his wife that he is aboard a hospital ship in the harbor kof Pusan for a checkup. He wrote that he Is all right.The father of two children, Neeson wrote that the Pirate sank in five minutes when It struck the mine off Wonsan harbor on the east coast of Korea.Sit MissingSix of the crew are listed as missing while 39 were wounded.Neeson, a graduate of Immaculate Heart school. Cheater, and Archmere Academy. Claymont, was employed I at the Sun Oil Co. refinery since 3-1 July, 1940, except for the time he was in the service.During World War II, Neeson served aboard J.he battleship Idaho and fought in several major Pacific naval campaigns. He saw action at Guam and Leyte GuU.Neeson is married to the former Alice E. Bullard, also of Chester.
