Bartz No. 32On List of “Safe”Freed from Fukuoka; Liberation of Boehm Officially ReportedrThe list of Janesville men of the 192nd Tank Battalion known to be safe mounted to 32 over the week-end with the news of theliberation from Fukuoka pris.-on «c a m p of Sgt- Robert Bartz, Janesville, who has been a prisoner of the Japanese since the fall of Bataan.The telegram regarding Sgt. Bartz’ liberation was re-Sgt, Barts ceived Saturday by his brother, Arthur Bartz, 220 N. Palm street. The telegramwas addressed to Albert Bartz, the father of the liberated man, who has been dead for the past two years. The message read: “Mr. Albert Bartz: The secretary of war has asked me to inform you that your son, Sgt. Robert W. Bartz was returned to military control Sept. 17 and is being returned to the United States within the near future. He will be given an opportunity to communicate with you upon his arrival if he has not already done so.” lt;signed E. F. However, he is known to have been in the camp in Japan for well over a year.Besides Arthur, Sgt. Bartz has two other brothers, Cap*. AlbertBartz, a member of the Tank company who was wounded in the Philippines and evacuated to Australia before the fall of Bataan, and Wallace, with the navy in the Pacific area; and four sisters, Mrs, Henriette Topel and Mrs. Norma Riedell, Elmhurst, III., Mrs. Helen Cullen, La Grange, IN.* and Mrs, Edith Benson, Dalton, WIs, Both of his parents are deceased.Before entering service Sgt. Bartz worked on his father's farm near Magnolia.Boehm Liberation Official Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Boehm, 13 N. Walnut street, were officially notified Monday morning that their son. Pvt. Robert Boehm, a 192ndTank battalionsoldier, had been returned to U. S. Military control and was enroute home. This follows receipt of a letter from Lt- Warren Hyde, Minneapolis, an officer assigned to the processing of 1 i berated prisoners at Na-Robeit Boehmgasaki, received Sept. 24 by a local attorney, Thomas W. Ehrlinger, 1102 Racine street, in which Boehm was mentioned as one of the men the lieutenant had seen.A telegram from the war department received Sunday, relayed a personal message from Pvt. Boehm, as Hollows: “I can hardly wait to see you and mother. Hope you are all well.'
