BooKsellers and Stationers.A HANDSOME MONUMENT.Mr. Joseph Seep Has Just Completed One in St. Catherine’s.In beautiful St. Catherine’s cemetery,presented in 1!)00 to the congregation of St. Titus’ church by Mr. Joseph Seep, the monument erected by the latter is now complete- and stands in all its magnificence an adornment to the burial place.The monument occupies the centre of the Seep family plot, located on a prominence in one of the moat beautiful spots in the cemetery, and is eol-csal in size. The contract for the designing and erection was given last November to the New England Granite Co. of Hartford, Conn., which firm also erected the Drake memorial in Wood lawn cemetery, and the work of placing the mammoth granite has occupied a number of men many weeks.The monument is of fine Westerly blue granite and weighs over fifty tons. It has been constructed in four pieces., the sarcophagus being of the Romanesque order. The Base is eight by twelve feet and is one of the largest pieces ever turned out by the New England Granite company. The height of the granite is ten feet.,. The hie or third piece is surrounded by twelve pilasters cut out of solid stone, surmounted by beautifully carved caps. On the front of the die is a cross surrounded by a wreath of olive and oak leaves. On the base beneath is carved the name, Joseph Seep.”The most striking feaiture of the monument is its massiveness and simplicity. The beautiful in art has apparently reached a climax in its construction and it looks as enduring as time. The designer was R. F. Reinhardt, of Philadelphia, a representative of the New England Granite company. Mr. Seep is highly satisfied with the beautiful piece of work and appreciates the skill and taste shown In itsstructure,Tlie Seep plot will be further beau-tilled in many ways, now that the monument is erected and visitors to the “here of unfathomed rest” next summer will find much improvement. Many other beautiful monuments and tablets have been erected in St. Cath erine’s and the entire grounds are kept in the best of order. Last fall 1.1 d bodies were removed from old Calvary cemetery to St. Catherine's and Sexton Miller, with his men. will begin the work tomorrow of disinterring and removing about as many-more.
