Spencer Is Free; Dinner in U. S.Nolan and Wallischto Reach 'Frisco Oct. 8. Letter StatesLiberation of Pvt. John C. Spencer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Spencer, Edgerlon route 4; the ar-rival in the United States ot S/SgL Herbert Durner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Durner, 222 N- Wash-inglon street;and a letter from S/SgL William Nolan Sr., 403 South Franklin street, in which heJohn Spencer stated that he and Louis Wallisch were six days out at sea enroute home from Manila and will dock Oct. 8 constituted today’s news of Hie 192nd Tank battalion concerning which information was someager for somany months.The release of Pvt. Spencer, 28, brought to 31 the total of 192nd Tank company men who are now safe. His parents, who previously resided at 385 Western avenue, Janesville, received a wire from the war department Thursday in which it was stated that he had been returned to military control Sept. 14, and his physical condition was fair. The government wire also quoted a message frim him in which he said, Am well and in American hands. Be home soon. Love, John.”Only the day before they had received a card which was probably written almost a year ago from Camp Tokyo where he was held prisoner after his transfer from the Philippines. This stated, “Season’s greetings from Nippon. White Christmas. Health fair. Spirits high. Dream of. chicken farm. Make it come true. Alone here.
