They followMonday, June 5, 1868.I he committee met to consider the subject of calling a reunion of the soldiers of Lawrence county on July 4th to inaugurate measures for the erection of a suitable soldiers’ monument,. it was determined that an address be written and signatures of soldiers attached thereto, calling ex-soldiers together, the same published in each of the county papers and attention called to the reunion through the press each week until the 4th.George E. Treadwell was appointed a committee to secure a meeting of ladies for the collection of provisions °f ah kinds for the occasion, provisions to be taken to White Hall the evening before.The following program was determined on subject to be formed underthe supervision of the chief marshal and move at .9 o’clock to Pearsons Grove. On arrival at grove there will be music by band; reading of the Declaration of Independence; ‘America’ by glee club; statement in regard to projected monument; “Star Spangled Banner; dinner, etc.; assembly to blow at 2 o’clock; music by band; oration; song by glee club; address; music by band, address; Hail Columbia ” by band general good time.It was determined to have a dancing platform, swings, croquet grounds, etc. The price of ice cream was fixed at 25 cts., soda water and such 10 cts.. dancing 10 cis. and admission to ground 10 cts The price of the substantia Is to be left to the discretion of the ladies in general assembly who may. without let, or hindrance. modify the above prices according to their usual custom of changing decrees of their tyrant, man Invitation were directed to be sent to Gens. Those present were James Hale. Captain John Young. James McGown. R. G. Dill, C. B. Louer. Isaac Murdick. John A. Lotten. Georg-W. McCracken, Thomas J. Offutt. Samuel Banks. Lafayette Baldwin. James A. Gardner. Stewart G. Alford and John P. Wilson.Taggart’s Office. May 17. 1893 At the regular annual meeting c the Lawrence County Monumental association which had been dulv advertised according to law. only two persons beside the president and secretary were present and after some informal talk it was concluded that the present officers should continue tc serve without an election. Weknow that the monument was built and the efforts of these men should be greatly appreciated and remembered by the sons and grandsons. Aside from being a memorial to the men who lought valiantly for peace, it. stands for the remarkable planning and hoping of several splendid and patriotic citizens of New Castle.
