Lone War Factory Gisholt.clI-IThanksgivingThe Gisholt Machine Co. alone of Madison’s major war production plants will remain open and in full operation Thanksgiving day, it was learned today.Spokesman for Oscar Mayer and Co. and the Madison-KippCorp. reported that their respective plants would be closed all day Thursday.A spokesman for Scanlon-Mor-ris Co. said that the manufacturing plant would shut down all day, but that the Scanlon-Morris laboratories would be in operation.Gov. Heil was asked by Maj. Gen. H. S. Aurand, commanding the army sixth service command embracing Wisconsin, to urge management and labor of all state war production facilities to maintain a full day’s production. Au-rand’s statement quoted a request to that effect from Donald M. Nelson. chairman of the War Production board.“Best Gratitude”“No holiday has deeper roots in the American tradition than Thanksgiving day,” Aurand quoted Nelson. “Year after year, it has been our custom to cease work on that day and thank God for the blessings He has given us.“We have been brought through many trials and perils during the past year; more than ever before, we can make this Thanksgiving day a day of devout andI-ihumble thanks to God. But w'e can best show our gratitude by demonstrating that we deserve themercies that have been shown us, and the way to do that is to work with all our might at the job which is before us. !“Therefore, in every factory which is producing war goods orgoods essential to our war economy, and in every mine or plant where war-essential raw materials are being produced, we must have a full day’s production onthis Thanksgiving day.Enemies Won’t Stop“Our enemies are not going to stop their production on Nov. 26; we dare not do so either. Men and women of management and labor alike can easily rearrange their personal schedules so that the traditional Thanksgiving dinner can be enjoyed after w'ork has been finished. And the deepest religious devotion we have will find its truest expression in unflagging attention to duty by all of us.”Gen.
