A short time since the commander of a Texas regiment which had bad luck in the civil war wrote to the Governor of Indiana, asking, in the interests of conciliation, that its flag, captured by the Northern horde that invaded the South and trampled its liberties under foot, should be returned to Texas. The request was endorsed by the Governor, flag is in the library of the Indiana State House, an Indiana regiment having brought it home as a trophy. Blue Jeans Williams and his people appear to consider the request a reasonable one, but State Librarian Connor entertains different views. Iu response 10 the impudent demand he sends the following sharp answer: “Being custodian ot the rebel flag which the Governor of Texas desires returned,! simply have to say that while I have control ot it it will not leave the state library. It is a trophy of the heroism of my comrades of Indiana, both living and dead, and if the Governor of Texas caonot be ‘pacifled’ without its return, he and bis soldiers of the 'lost cause’ will have to go unpacifled.” Evidently the spirit of Morton is in Indiana yet.
