2nd Cav puts spectacle into command changeFEUCHT, Germany (SS) — Even in a change of command — often a drab affair showing little imagination — the 2nd Armd Cav rides high in the saddle.Earlier this week, Brig. Gen. David M. Maddox turned the regiment’s reins over to the 62nd commander of the regiment, Col. William W. Crouch. During the ceremony, cannon were fired, armored vehicles passed through great clouds of pink and purple smoke, and a horseman appeared in traditional blue and yellow.Riding across the airfield tarmac, Sfc. John Jackson, who bills himself as “the official regimental cowboy,” presented a dozen roses, each in the regimental colors of red and white, to the wives of the old and new commanders.About 500 troops were on parade, including an honorary platoon from the 12th Panzer Brigade, the regiment’s German partnership unit.Other elements of the Cav watched and waited on the Czechoslovakian border, on duty far from the pomp and ceremony at the Feucht Army Airfield outside Nuernberg.
