Floyd Arbuckle, 89, was laid to rest last week.“We had planned to honor Mr. Arbuckle before his death,” Young said. “Even though it was difficult, we decided to honor him posthumously.Arbuckle’s widow was at the ceremony and was presented with a plaque honoring her husband.“I want to thank all the members of the American Legion. God bless you all,” said Arbuckle, visibly moved.Young described Floyd Arbuckle as a kind, gentle man who played a significant role in the post.“He was a true champion to the success and welfare of the post,” Young said.During the ceremony, Rosalie Keys, whose brother, Ernest Griffin, served in Vietnam, sang a moving rendition of the song “Hero, which brought tears to theeyes of several of those in attendance.Carnell Brown, one of four ordained pastors within thepost, spoke about the meaningof Veterans Day.“It is a celebration of our forefathers who have fought in battles and how we might remember where we are andYoung said it is important for everyone to take time out to remember veterans.“We all get caught up in our day-to-day activities and sometimes we forget to remember those who served, but we cannot forget.”
