The Parent ProblemBy GAHKY C. 6IYEBS. Ph.D.A Teacher CaJi Mold The Pupil Reflecting on the values of Sunday school, I keep thinking of the good influence of the splendid per-sous who are teachers. True, a few of them are over-pious, intolerant and lacking in ability to understand children and youth. Yet most Of them are persons whom our children esteem, persons who inspire our children to want to do right and be useful citizens. I am sure the average Sunday school teacher does more good to children as a person than as a teacher.Bent Twigs In the Sunday school I attended as a boy—a really rural Sunday school—there were among my teachers Charley McCuUoh, George ■ Yeakle, Frank Sosey. I always looked up to them. So did others in that community. I also went to day school to Charley McCuHoh, the greatest teacher I ever had. 1 still revere the memories of those great '• souls. Only Frank Sosey is left. I still look up to him. When I was a small boy in the ungraded rural school, he was '‘big” and I marveled, at the way he Could spell and cipher.Mrs. Myers grew up in a similar Sunday school.As in the immunity in which i grew up, the leaders of this Sunday schosl have been the outstandine citizens. Of the aduU classes there• Chauncey Allen, Ed Clark, Pete Weber.While I was tilting in Pete’s class• one Sunday last summer, a little bored witix the lesson. Colonel Wai-’ Sheard, of the U. s. Marines, who sat beside me. whispered seriously: “I often marvel at whatthis Sunday school and church nieans to this community/*Teen Age Also the teachers of the tcsn aac, r»nd younger chUdren of this largerural Sunday school are outstanding young citizens. UiUess a person commands respict in the rural com-mumty he hardly can become a Sunday schoo' teacher.
