neipmg omra a ncnise i saw speeding before me four darkies on bicycles, chasing an alligator who was running with the speed of a horse. I joined in the chase with my car. The alligator was brought to bay at the comer of the porch of the house I am working on and there turned to fight. He hissed with the sound of a steam engine and his roar was the sound of a mad bull. One of the darkles sprung to the porch and as'he raised his head to hiss and roar the coon cast a noose over his head. When we had him lassooed, three men ahold of one end of the rope, two on the other, he was 'performing like a bucking broncho. He would grasp the rope between his jaws and spin round like a top and j the blows he struck with bis tail re-' sembled the powerful blows of a sledge , 'hammer. He certainly ran U3 along iat a fearful gait. We finally got our ! rope around a tree. He then did some | whirling, striking and roaring, with the. rope tied to the tree. I started to .make his acquaintance. I picked up a . hard pine 2x4, held it out to him and . he imediately snapped, closed his jaws . spun around and it was wrenched from j my hands in a second. I do not know how big they get but he is better thaneight feet long.—C. B. Albright.
