JResolved to defend their long-loved homesFrom the enemy gathered ’round.The Germans with triumphant treadCharged on that little band.Hut to their surprise found a wall of•toneMade of men of a foreign clan.The light raged heavy and hard,Hut it was to be for naught.And at dawn not one of the bravebandRemained from their fight, wellfought.And now in the days to followWhen peace reigns again in the hearts of men,There will be told ’round new fireplaces the story How those heroes died for their native land.
