Council AwardsJob to RenovateLeclaire BandshellAldermen Also BackPlans to ReorganizeCivil Defense SetupMeeting in special session Monday night, the Edwardsville city council awarded a $6,850.32 contract to Henry Eenken for extensive renovation of the bandstand in Leclaire Lake park.The only other bidder for the job in Monday night’s letting was John A. Krouse, also an Edwards-villo general contractor, whose offer was $7,346.Purpose of repairing and remodeling the afc-present unsafe bandstand is threefold, it was explained,1, To house all city-owned civil defense communications equipment therein,2, To provide sanitary and restroom facilities for the public in connection with plans for expanded usage of the municipal park,3, To replace the present wooden flooring with a concrete deck so that the structure onc$ more may be used for summer concerts and other public activities.During the speeiM session the council gave informal approval to plans outlined by Leonard J. Schwartz for reorganizing and revitalizing the city’s civil defense program. Schwartz became Ed-wardsville civil defense direel or last Sept, 17 upon the resignation of George E, Little, Jr,The program, Schwartz told The Intelligencer later, includes a local communications division headed by Thomas N, Colgate, Jr., as director, who at present has five active aides: Tom Gibbons, John Gibbons, Karl L.
