Capt. Williams And Wife Visit Here; He Ends F. B. I. TrainingCapt. and Mrs. Newell Williams spent Monday night, October 26, in Alton as guests of Mrs. R. K. Latham. They also had breakfast at Western and greeted their many friends.Capt. Williams was Spanish instructor and swimming coach at W. M.'A. for ten years, while Mrs. Williams sponsored the yearbook. He joined the F. B. I. last summer and had just completed an intensive three-months’ training course in Washington, D. C. He passed with a very high rating and was on his way to San Diego, Calif. As he was driving on a set schedule, he and Mrs. Williams could spend only one night in Alton.On Monday evening many of theirifriends dropped in at Mrs. Latham’s to see Capt. and Mrs. Williams, including Col. Jackson, Col. and Mrs. Moore, Maj. and Mrs. Persing, Maj. and Mrs. Magee, Capt. and Mrs. Hinton, Capt. and Mrs. Gould, Capt. and Mrs. Schrantz, Capt. and Mrs. Savage, Mrs. A. M. Jackson, Mrs. C. C. Ellison, Lieut. Rex Latham of the U. S. Air Corps, arid Lieut. Crouse. They enjoyed Capt. Williams’s account of his training, which was intensive and strict. He had a fine course in marksmanship, along with other instruction in F. B. I. methods. All candidates became so physically fit that the trainer ran around on the prostrate men, stepping on their stomachs. They attended classes ten hours a day rind studiedat night.sCapt. and Mrs. Williams stated that they missed Western greatly, but they are anticipating their new experiences in California.
