Pavluck. who is from I Melvindale, Mich., saw wartime duty aboard troop transports in the Atlantic.The PCE 880 arrived at the Sheboygan Naval Reserve Training Center at 3 30 p. m. Thursday and was welcomed by LT. Cmdr. Joseph W. Greene, in-, spector instructor of the- Sheboyganreserve center. She wasCall Fordocked by enlisted men of the reserve unit here.The 185-foot patrol escort saw service for two years during the last war patroling Alaskan waters, where she made strategic meteorological observations and guided friendly aircralt. At thg war’s end she was placed In the reserve fleet in the Boston Naval yardThe patrol escort was reactivated in June, 1948. and joined five sister ships in the service of the ninth naval district.Built by the Albina Engine and Machine Works. Portland, Ore.. she was commissioned on April 29. 1944.Standard speed for the craft is 10 knots with a 15-knot maximum. She is powered by two 900-hdrsepower, 12-cylinder engines. Her firepower consists of a 3-inch gun, a 50-caliber dual purpose mount, and a 40mm and rwo 20mm anti-aircraft weapons. Two depth charge projectors and a forward anti-submarine weapon -a ’ hedge hog” — complete her armament. She Is also equipped with surface and air search radar and anti submarine sonar.The PCE 880 is capable of training naval reservists in navigation. gunnery, seamanship and anti submarine operations.
