Strolling over the grounds we noticed little flags waving here andthere in the soft air, indicating that the soldier slept peacefully below. Mrs. Capt. Burnham hung a pretty wreath upon the head stone of Charles G.Howell’s grave; the graves of Capt. John Perry and of David Perry were afso sought out and appropriately decorated ; also, those of Homer McLean by his devoted widow. The grave of J. G. Howell, a noble young man who entered the service from Normal—a teacher in tlie model department, called up sad reminicien-ces. He was killed at Fort Don nelson. Many persons were strewing flowers upon humble graves, overlooked by allbut themselves. A lady—Mrs. Pease—stood by four little graves, tearfully and tenderly laying roses and honeysuckle upon them. “They were two boys—two girls,’’ she said, “and that little one,” pointing to the little mound above her last boy, “I felt 1 could not be reconciled when he was taken—I thought he might have been spared, I had lost so many,”—and her utterance was choked by rising sobs and tears. We turned away unable to utter our poor words in the ear of grief so sacred. The ceremonies over the procession returned to the public square and was dismissed.NA MES—SOLDKll\S G KOUND.Harrison B.
