Thomson Warns CurtisN.H. WU1 Hit Back HardCONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Gov. Meldrim Thomson Jr. has told Maine Gov. Kenneth Curtis, New Hampshire will have no alternative but to retaliate if New Hampshire lobstermcn arc arrested in disputed fishing waters.Thomson, in a letter to Curtis, said he heard about possible hanassraent of New Hampshire lobstermen by Maine authorities, including threats of confiscation ofIntetpr rvtHNegotiators from both states have been trying to reach a settlement on the disputed marine boundary.Thomson said he instructed New Hampshire fishermen to ignore any threats and continue fishing. Earlier a Dover lobsterman, Edward Heaphy, was arrested by Maine officials for fishing in the disputed area.Thomson, a Republican, Inld C.nrtls. a r»mnrrnt hrhoped the negotiators might continue their deliberations without the emotionalism of a physical confrontation on the issue.He added, In candor, I must advise that if your officials should molest our lobstermcn . . . whilethey are engaged in the peaceful pursuit of fishing in New Hampshire waters, we shall have no alternative hut to retaliate nromptlv.
